Until you can install the Windows Update fix release, you can set a registry key that will cause Outlook to stop using the local Windows Search service. When this registry key is set, Outlook will use its own built-in search engine. The built-in search will display the message below to indicate it is not using the Windows Search service. The issues documented in this section have been reported after installing the recent updates listed below. We're investigating the issues and will update this page when a fix is available.

In this case, you’ll have to remove your app’s cache to resolve your issue. Should you decide to remove a profile, back up the data files first. The first step is to check whether the PST file exists in its original location. You can also download the trial tool to try and test the working of the tool before buying the premium edition. If your PST file is stored on a network drive, ensure that the drive is accessible and that you have the necessary permissions. The built-in [trusted Outlook repair blog](https://fixoutlookhelp.wordpress.com/2025/10/29/repair-outlook-ost-and-pst-files-2025-guide/) back-off mechanisms in the indexing component of Windows Search or WDS pauses the indexing of Outlook data when the system is under heavy use. The easiest way to let the indexing finish is to leave Outlook running overnight.Additionally, you can reduce performance issues by running Outlook in Cached Exchange Mode. In this mode, Windows Search or WDS searches the local copy of the mailbox instead of the mailbox content on the server. I even reduced mailboxes sizes and that didn't help, I setup a new user (albeit existing PC but new windows profile), and he is having the same issues. If the mailboxes open automatically after removing them and restarting Outlook, they may be auto mapped. This setting can be changed by an Exchange admin by submitting a request via Jira and including the usernames of the client and the usernames of the mailboxes that need to be removed.

If you’re still having problems, you can try resetting your Windows Firewall settings back to default. Once the add-ins are disabled, close Outlook 2016 and restart the application normally to check whether it now opens as normal or not. You can determine if it's corrupted by creating a new profile and changing which profile is used when Outlook starts.
